Luckily, it seems that Sean ended up having some other virus and didn’t end up having COVID. He was much improved by Tuesday and we ended up rejoining him on Thursday evening. The bat never made another appearance this week, so it seemed like all of the excitement was done with us. Except it wasn’t!

Thursday night was rough because I had a lot of trouble sleeping mostly from pretty extreme hot flashes. Sean was up very late and Ginny ended up throwing up in the middle of the night. We had to turn on the lights to clean that up! By the time Friday morning finally rolled around, I had only slept a few hours and I was exhausted. Needless to say, I was pretty grumpy in the morning. I was grumpy because I was tired, I was hungry, I knew I didn’t have the energy to ride that day and I had the same fluid build-up as the last couple weeks where I basically gained five pounds in 24 hours.
I needed something to boost my mood, so I decided to make pancakes and eggs. That least helped with the being hungry part of my bad mood. Maddie very much enjoyed the pancakes and eggs and ended up eating one and half for herself! Grandma took Maddie to the park and to the pool while Sean and I worked remotely. That really tired her out, so she ended up passing out at a slightly earlier bedtime, which allowed us to watch the first episode of the House of the Dragon on HBO. It started last Sunday, but we didn’t watch it when we abandoned Sean and fled to the city house.
I had really restful night of sleep, so Sean and I ended up going for a ride outside this morning. It felt good to be able to ride, but I can tell my body needs to work a lot harder to put out the same power. I also have no tank for quick, punchy efforts either. My legs feel like lead when I try to sprint. Whenever Sean does any remotely quick acceleration, I almost certainly get dropped because I just can’t keep up. All I can put out right now is a steady pace and that’s about it.
After our ride, we decided to visit Black Market Bakers in Edgewater where we bought delicious avocado toast and way too many baked goods for us to responsibly consume. We also bought a country loaf that we decided we would eat with dinner. Our dinner meal was decided by primarily asking the question, “what can we eat with the bread?” Sean grilled up some shrimp, I made a creamy garlic sauce, my mom roasted some broccoli and then we cooked up pasta for Maddie. It was a pretty simple dinner, but it ended up being really delicious! The garlic sauce was absolutely yummy to sop up with the bread. The recipe we used was adapted from this recipe, but we decided to cook the shrimp on the grill.
I’m very excited to have only five treatments left. I wish I was already done though. It’s not just because the treatment is getting harder, it’s more of the fact that it is dominating part of my life. Everything revolves around treatment and all the side effects are just constant reminders of it. I know that I will still have radiation a month after this is over, but I really can’t wait to be out of chemotherapy. I can’t wait to give my body the chance to heal from this treatment.
