Radiation Day 2 of 20

Farm festival goat

Today went much better than yesterday. No tears and I wasn’t nearly as nervous for the whole thing. It was very quick! My parking ticket only had 26 minutes on it. Today we listened to some classic rock, but we only got through about 2 songs before it was done. Tomorrow I have treatment in the morning at 7 AM only because we are going to a school tour at 4 PM tomorrow. 10% done!

Halloween recap

Ginny the Squirrel

Since this was a short post, I thought I would recap our Halloween experience. My parents arrived on Friday evening to be here for the week, so we went to Weber’s Farm with Maddie on Saturday morning. We saw some goats, ate some apple cider donuts, went on a hay ride and bought some apples. Weber’s has two farms, one that has a store and all of this fall festival stuff and the other is an actual farm where you can go and pick apples. We went to the fall festival, because I thought that would ultimately be more fun for Maddie.

Sean as Hei Hei

On Sunday, we went to one of Maddie’s classmates birthday parties. All the kiddos wore their Halloween costumes. They had the “Science Guys” come perform. They do a bunch of science experiments and explain it at the appropriate age level (depending on the crowd).

Monday was all of the Halloween festivities! Maddie had a parade at school that was very cute, but also very crowded. Parents come and all the babies and kids parade around the building in their costumes and they get candy from the other classrooms. After the parade they had a party in their classroom. Maddie dressed up as Moana and she was so excited about it. Her costume was really cute and pretty good quality. I bought it off of the Disney website. I ordered the dress and the matching sandals and necklace. I didn’t originally plan to buy the necklace, but it ended up being cheaper because of a sale they were having if I bought all three rather than just the dress and shoes!

My shiny shell

Unfortunately, it was rainy for Halloween night. Maddie wore her raincoat over her costume which was kind of a bummer. I dressed up as Tamatoa, the evil, shiny crab. Sean was Hei Hei the chicken. Sean’s costume was pretty low-key since he isn’t the biggest fan of Halloween. My costume require some minor crafting. I bought some lobster claws and painted them with spray paint. Then I bought a purple hoody and leggings. Finally, I used a cardboard cutout, glued a bunch of things to it and then spray painted it gold. We really wanted to stick with the Moana theme but not be any of the people in it. Plus, I really like the crab who is played by Jemaine Clement (think Flight of the Concords or What We Do in the Shadows) and his song, Shiny. I was impressed with my self-control because I gauged the effort of making the costume to be fairly easy and I think I made a fair assessment. Normally, I totally over-subscribe myself and can barely finish my costume! Overall, it felt like a pretty successful Halloween.

  1. What talent! I always dreaded Halloween if there was to be any crafting involved! Sounds like a fun time had by all. I’m so glad your energy levels are up and you can continue all these fun things with Maddie.
