Today is the only day that I will deviate from my normal 4 PM slot except for maybe the next time I get my Herceptin infusion. My appointment was at 7 AM, so I woke up at 6 AM and arrived at the hospital by 6:50 AM. The office was dark, which I expected. Two nurses came to get me at the office doors and they told me, “We are not legally allowed to treat you until the doctor gets here. So we have to wait a bit, but you can go get changed.” Ha!
I got changed and sat down for only a couple minutes before they said that my doctor texted from the garage that he was here and it was a go! They apologized for starting “so” late even though it was only 7:03 AM. When I got out of the machine it was 7:20 AM. That makes me think that today’s treatment took a little bit longer. I will have to pay more attention the next couple of times – gather some stats!
I can’t say that I have any side effects, which aligns with the expectations that were set. I’ve been putting on this special gel twice a day. I can tell that it is very different from the Aquafor. First, it’s a really thin, sticky gel. It’s greasy like fat, but it’s very thin. Second, it stays on my skin even when I wash with soap. Granted, I’m not really trying to wash it off, but it’s not easy to get off my hands either. Aquafor is sort of like that, but eventually it feels like it absorbs into your skin. I read a paper that investigated its effectiveness for breast cancer patients. I can’t seem to find the paper again, but from what I remember it said that women who used it avoided the worst side effects. After almost 15 to 16 weeks of avoiding all illnesses, I have been unfortunate to contract some type of cold that most likely originated from daycare. I can’t really complain just yet. It probably won’t be until the end of next week where I have any noticeable side effects (hopefully).
Back on my 4 PM schedule tomorrow!
