About me

My name is Christina, mother to a young toddler, wife to my high school sweetheart and a cancer survivor. I decided to start a blog after my diagnosis and before my treatment started to keep my family and friends updated and to keep an account of my journey. I also felt this was a good enough excuse as any to start my own blog. While I will write about my journey, I will probably include some other random posts as they tickle my fancy.
I hope that this blog helps others who are faced with the same or similar diagnosis, but I also hope it can help to show that we are more than just our diagnosis – that even though treatment becomes the center of our (and many times our family’s) lives, there is still so much more that we do, think about and aspire to.
About the blog
Want a cuke? Finding a name for a blog felt like an insurmountable task. There were so many potential pitfalls and pressure – how could I choose? It felt right to go with something random. There is actually a story behind this question that is an inside joke between me and my husband. From what I’m willing to share of its true meaning, it comes from one of my husband’s work stories. A totally serious question from a colleague asking if he wished to have a cucumber (cuke) at a very unexpected moment. Like many inside jokes, it can sound pretty stupid to explain to anyone who did not live the experience themselves, so I won’t explain any more. But choosing this probably says more about who I am – someone who tries to find joy and something funny, even at seemingly inappropriate times. Grab a cuke and enjoy!
